Safely Aging in Her Own Home

“I’m just so, so appreciative.”

“Having Rebuilding Together Dutchess County do these repairs to my home means a whole lot,” Sandra said as she watched Rebuilding Together volunteers complete repairs throughout the home. “I feel like it will really be my home again. Everything that they’ve done, I couldn’t have done it myself. I’m just so, so appreciative.” 

On National Rebuilding Day 2018, Rebuilding Together Dutchess County had the pleasure of serving Sandra, a 69-year-old woman who has lived in her City of Poughkeepsie home for the past 32 years. She lives alone and is the widow of a military veteran. As an aging woman, she was not able to keep up with the repairs her home needed, which is why RTDC stepped in. Installing handrails throughout her home, major repairs to the siding of the home, replacing windows, electrical work, and painting the outside of the home are just some of the critical repairs we completed so she can continue to safely and comfortably remain in her home.
