Why Should I Be Concerned About Lead?
Lead can affect anyone, but children ages 6 and younger face serious hazards due to the fact that their bodies are still developing. Young children put their hands and everything else in their mouths, so they can eat the dust or chips of lead-based paint without knowing it-even bits of paint too small to see can come off windows, doors, and walls, creating lead-dust. Expectant mothers are also very sensitive to lead as they can pass it to their unborn baby. Lead poisoning is not easy to detect. Sometimes no symptoms occur, and sometimes the symptoms are the same as those of more common illnesses.
