Fall Rebuilding Day

frdpic3d11This October RTDC successfully completed our fourth annual Fall Rebuilding Day.  This year RTDC worked on three projects on October 22, two of which were part of the Sears Heroes at Home partnership for veterans and their families.  In Dutchess County alone Sears has sponsored over 30 homes for low-income veterans and donated over $80,000 over the past 4 years.

Volunteers from the NYS Troopers, TD Bank, and Meyer Contracting thoroughly enjoyed helping out their community on these three projects, doing work that included constructing a wheelchair ramp, replacing flooring, landscaping, plumbing, masonry work, and painting.   “There's few things that you can do out here in the community where you really can get hands on and just to see the homeowners face when we’re done…priceless,” said volunteer and Board Member Tina Hadden-Ludwig of  The Valley Group. “It’s all about giving a little bit back.”

Recipients of the Fall Rebuilding Day projects included an elderly widow of a World War II veteran, a retired National Guardsman, and a senior citizen with mobility issues.   “Today’s projects went very smoothly.  I think all of our volunteers really felt the tangible difference they were making in each of the homeowner’s lives,” said Christina Boryk, Executive Director of RTDC.  “We wouldn’t have been able to do the work that we did however, without the supportive partnerships with local businesses like TD Bank, Meyer Contracting, and Sears.”
