RTDC Extends 2011 Project Application Deadline
Press Release- 10/30/2010
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- Rebuilding Together Dutchess County has extended the application deadline for 2011 home repair projects to December 15, 2010. The repairs are done at no cost to income qualified homeowners through the generous sponsorship of many area businesses, national sponsors, area churches and other grant programs.
The organization plans to complete approximately 20 projects total on its National Rebuilding Day in April 2011 and Fall Rebuilding Day in October 2011. Since its founding in 1992, over 350 homes have been rehabilitated throughout the county, providing services worth $3.25 million at market value.
In order to carefully review applications, interview homeowners, inspect homes and select the home repair projects that are considered the most needy, the application process began in June 2010 for the 2011 projects. Interested individuals are encouraged to begin the process immediately. The deadline for completed applications is now December 15, 2010. Selected homeowners will be notified in early 2011.
Low-income homeowners, especially those who are elderly, living with a disability, veterans or parents with young children are encouraged to apply. Local volunteers, many representing their sponsoring employers, civic or fraternal organizations, churches, synagogues, or schools, do all the work on the homes. They are led and assisted by skilled trades volunteers from the Builder’s Association of the Hudson Valley, various local trade unions, private contractors and other skilled individuals. If a home is selected for inclusion in the program, there is no cost to the homeowner.
The local organization is an affiliate of Rebuilding Together, the Nation’s largest volunteer organization preserving and revitalizing low-income houses and communities.
